What do you accept?

All clothing received must be clean and have no damage. Please don't send us anything with/or is: 

  • Fading
  • Pilling
  • Stretched 
  • Stains or discoloration of any kind
  • Odors
  • Not authentic
  • Rips, holes, tears, snags or runs in the fabric
  • Missing or damaged fasteners: buttons, zippers, ties, hooks, snaps, etc.
  • Missing manufacturer’s tags (meaning size and brand)
  • Shrinkage
  • Broken or stretched elastic in sleeves, waistbands, etc.
  • Holes, scuff marks or worn-through areas in shoes and boots
  • No decorations added after the item was purchased—including bedazzling, metal or rhinestone studs, fabric paints, embroidery, fringe, tie-dye or beading.
  • Cost less than $40 new
  • Any garment that has been altered
  • Bras and swimsuits (without new tags), underwear, socks, or undershirts
  • Ultimately, don’t send us anything you wouldn’t let your best friend wear while out in public with you.

Why are name brands preferred over discount brands?

We prefer name-brand clothing since our goal is to help your rescue raise as much as possible. We have found that brands like Anthropology, J.Crew, and Free People raise the most due to their high resale value. The market price on used discount-brand clothing does not raise enough for rescues to offset the cost of processing. If an item didn’t originally retail for more than $40 new, we will redistribute it via bulk channels. However, we do not earn enough via these channels to offset shipping costs, so sorting items from lower-end brands before you send in your bag will help your rescue. 

What sizes do you accept?

We accept clothing of all sizes for Men and Women.

What kinds of clothing items do you accept?

We accept new and pre-loved clothing and accessories that originally retailed for over $40. Shoes, handbags, coats, jackets and dresses will earn the most.

What dont you accept?

Underwear, undershirts, socks, or swimwear. We will accept bras and swimsuits but only if they are new with tags of $40 or more.

Will you pick up my box from anywhere in the world?

Currently, we only have USPS pick up for donation bags in the 48 contiguous United States. We cannot fulfill bag requests for Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa or countries outside the U.S.

What happens to my clothes after I send them in?

Once we receive the clothing, we sort it, determine the resale prices of the remaining items, take pictures, and get it up for sale on Theclawset.com. Your rescue receives at minimum 10% of sales sold, minus cost and expenses. We issue checks twice a year in January and July.

How are the resale prices determined?

We have a team on hand that help ensure your item is priced appropriately. Our resale prices vary depending on the condition of the piece, but will generally be 40-90% off the new retail price.

What happens to clothes that dont meet your standards for resale?

Clothes that do not meet our standard for resale are redistributed via bulk channels with the proceeds going back to a rescue, minus cost of any expenses associated.

Why didnt you list all of my clothes on your website?

We have two key acceptance criteria: Condition — we only want to sell items that we’d feel comfortable letting our friends wear. Cost — we can only afford to resell items that originally retailed for more than $40.

If an item does not meet either of these criteria, we are not able to put it up for sale on our site. We will try to distribute it through bulk channels to earn money for your rescue. 

Can you return unaccepted items to me?

We are unable to return clothes that we can’t sell. The shipping and handling costs are simply too prohibitive. As mentioned above, we still do our best to turn those items into money for a rescue via other channels. Please be sure that you are ready to part with your items before sending them on to us.

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

At this time, The Clawset.com is not set up as a nonprofit organization so donations are not tax deductible and we are not able to provide receipts.

When will the rescue get the money?

We issue checks twice a year in January and July. There is a $40 threshold that each rescue must raise in order for the check to be released. If the threshold is not reached, the money raised will be rolled over to the next period.

Can the check be made out to someone other than the rescue?

We created The Clawset to help raise money for rescues, so the check will be sent directly to the rescue.
